2 Persons Apprehended During Naka Search in Sopore; Incriminating Material Recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two persons during a naka search party, manned by police and army, and incriminating material recovered from their possession at Shalimar Colony in North Kashmir’s Sopore.

In a statement to, the police said that today on a specific information, a joint naka was established by Sopore Police alongwith Army 22 RR and 179 Bn CRPF at Shalimar Colony crossing during which two suspects namely Asif Rasheed War son of Abdul Rasheed War and Altaf Hussain Najar son Abdul Ahad Najar, residents of Natnoosa Kupwara were apprehended.

“Upon search, a hand grenade and incriminating material was recovered from their possession”, they said.

On preliminary enquiry, they disclosed their allegiance to the proscribed militant outfit LeT and intended to lob the acquired grenade at an undisclosed location in Kupwara with an intention to cause casualties”, they said adding a case under FIR No. 275/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Sopore, they said.

Investigation is going on and more arrests are anticipated, reads the statement. (GNS)
