SPM, GMC Srinagar commemorated World Diabetes Day
On World Diabetes Day, when over 537 million people are living with diabetes globally, even after a century after insulin was discovered, still millions of people living with diabetes doesn’t have access to diabetes care.
Nationally, 77 million people are estimated living with diabetes. Currently, one in six people (17%) in the world with diabetes is from India.
Locally, Srinagar has around 10 percent adult population affected with diabetes.
Every year, more and more people with diabetes require optimal ongoing care and support to manage their chronic conditions and need to avoid associated complications.
The theme for World Diabetes Day 2021-23 is access to diabetes care. On this year on World Diabetes Day, the Department of Community Medicine (SPM), Government Medical College Srinagar conducted diabetes awareness and screening camps across Block Hazratbal at various hospitals and health centres including SDH Hazratbal, PHC Nishat, PHC Harwan during which hundreds of persons were screened for diabetes and all necessary guidance was provided for management of diabetes while exhorting lifestyle modification among high risk population to bring about necessary changes in the day today activities, physical activities and dietary habits.
