Srinagar: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was trolled for running away with a blanket after an earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit Kashmir.
Many Twitter users reminded him of August 5, 2019, when New Delhi abrogated Article 370 and its corollary Article 35-A, and also bifurcated the State of J&K into two federally governed Union territories – J&K and Ladakh.
A major earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale hit north India on Friday late evening, creating panic among the people.
The earthquake was felt at 10:30 pm.
The tremors were felt in several parts of north India including Punjab, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was 35 km W of Murghob in Tajikistan-Xinjiang Border Region,
“Not since the earthquake of 2005 have the tremors in Srinagar been bad enough to force me out of the house. I grabbed a blanket & ran. I didn’t remember to take my phone & so was unable to tweet “earthquake” while the damn ground was shaking,” Omar Abdullah tweeted soon after the tweet.
“Hope it was not as bad as August 5. Praying, the blanket is back in place and the phone in right hands :),” tweeted senior journalist Peerzada Ashiq in response to Omar’s tweet.
Another Twitterati Pulpit Rawlani wrote to him, “What about the tremors felt on 26th May 2014, 30th May 2019, and 5th August 2019?”
